Brodick is the main town on Arran, although Lamlash is historically the capital of the island. It is the commercial centre, due to the main ferry terminal where ferries from Ardrossan arrive, the large Co-op Centre, its banking facilities and it's location in the centre of the eastern coast.

It is in the unitary council area of North Ayrshire. In the 2001 census it had a resident population of 5,058. Arran is the seventh largest Scottish island and the ninth largest island surrounding Great Britain (excluding Ireland). |
